HEALTHCARE INTERIOR
This PET CT scan centre in India redefines the typical clinical environment with a design approach that is both human-centred and culturally rooted. We created a space that is not only functionally efficient but also emotionally comforting, aligning with the physical and psychological needs of patients undergoing diagnostic procedures. The design harmoniously blends functionality with aesthetics, delivering a calm, welcoming environment for patients and visitors. The primary goal of the space is to create a soothing and modern healthcare environment that mitigates the anxiety often associated with diagnostic procedures. The design achieves this through the use of natural materials, warm tones, and strategic spatial planning.

Key Design Features:

Material Palette: The material palette is warm and tactile, with a dominant use of natural wood finishes, muted terracotta tones, and soft greys. The use of glass partitions, louvred wood elements, and biophilic accents adds openness, ventilation, and a sense of continuity throughout the space, creating a grounded and comforting atmosphere.

Reception & Waiting Area: A key architectural feature of this PET CT scan centre is its double-volume reception area, which creates a striking first impression while enhancing the spatial experience for visitors. The soaring ceiling height not only introduces a sense of openness and grandeur but also helps reduce the feeling of confinement often associated with medical environments. Within this space, a minimal floating staircase with wooden treads and slender black metal railing becomes both a vertical connector and a sculptural feature. Adjacent to it, subtly nestled in a curved wooden niche, is a small inbuilt temple — a culturally sensitive addition that reflects the practice of invoking peace and blessings in spaces of healing. This fusion of spirituality and design offers a moment of pause and reflection, balancing the clinical efficiency of the centre with cultural mindfulness. The curved wooden reception desk, along with indoor plants and natural light, enhances the welcoming nature of the space. The private waiting area is partitioned with glass, providing privacy while maintaining visual connectivity.

Spatial Layout: The centre effectively utilises a split-level design, creating layered volumes and maximising available space. Since the entire site is separated by beams, we designed the centre as three different spaces with the double volume acting as a physical and visual connector. The waiting areas are situated in the front of the site, maximising the use of natural light, while offices, restricted areas, PET-CT machine room, etc, which require privacy and solidity, are situated at the end. The use of glass and louvred wooden partitions ensures openness, yet maintains privacy, thus unifying the open spaces
Wayfinding & Signage: Marked spaces combined with informative medical imagery aid patient navigation while also subtly educating them.
Lighting: The lighting design is both functional and atmospheric. Natural light filters in through strategically placed windows and interior glass partitions, illuminating the space gently and reducing dependence on harsh artificial lighting during the day. This creates a warm and inviting ambiance, contributing to patient comfort and well-being. Complementing the natural light, the artificial lighting is subtle and modern—recessed ceiling lights provide even, shadow-free illumination, while accent lights highlight key architectural elements like the curved wooden reception desk and vertical surfaces. The Suspended sculptural wooden lights in the double volume space not only highlight the space, but also adds a layered visual texture that draws the eye upward. This interplay between volume, material, and light gives the reception area a contemporary character, welcoming, calming, and professional. The thoughtful orchestration of scale, light, and transparency within the double-height space sets the tone for the rest of the centre, establishing an environment that is both visually uplifting and emotionally reassuring for patients and visitors alike.
The centre balances the seriousness of a medical facility with the ease of a hospitality setting. The biophilic elements and tactile finishes foster a sense of care and tranquillity, making the experience less intimidating for patients. This project exemplifies how medical architecture can be elevated through thoughtful design, focusing equally on patient experience and operational efficiency.
